Did you know that anybody can register your first and last name as their domain name?

For ten dollars a year or less, you can make sure that nobody else gets your name by registering it yourself.

A true story!

I was talking to a professional sales person the other day and asked her if she had registered her name as a domain yet. She had no idea what I was talking about.

I explained, like my name for instance "Shelley Lockwood."

I have registered www.ShelleyLockwood.com to...

a) make sure nobody else does

b) make sure I have control over what type of material appears on the Net attached to MY NAME

c) because it sounds pretty impressive in business when I'm able to refer potential clients to my name dot com.

Plus! It's a pretty easy www name for myself and other people to remember.

And! I'm promoting MY NAME.

If you have a personal website, a business website or even if you work for someone else with a website you can forward your domain name to any website for free. In other words it can still go to a website on the web without it costing you anything. Or, you can just leave it parked for free.

Let's see, how about an example?

Here's a real estate agent who doesn't have her own website (yet) but she can now send people to the page about her on the company website by simply giving out her name www.MarleneQuaife.com. Rather than telling people go to www my company website, then click on agents and scroll through to my name, then click the link she simply says visit www.MarleneQuaife.com.

With your name as your domain name you advertise and promote your name, making it easier to find you and more likely they'll remember your name.

Anyway, I'm telling you this because I think it's important to make sure nobody takes your name and the only way to do that is by registering it yourself.
